The counters are that one element that, if messy, can make me feel unhinged, hulk-like, bombarded with the stress of life. But if they’re clear and organized, clean counter space can help me feel significantly more put together. Strange, but true.
The green-hippie inside me cringes at the idea of daily cloroxing the surface our food comes in regular contact with. Chemicals have the fun potential to trigger the growing of 5th limbs, frying of brains, you know, all that stuff. But I also shudder thinking of the bacterial Woodstock that could be my non-sterilized prep surface.
Enter vinegar: the perfect cleaning agent. It sanitizes, it is natural, it hasn’t (yet) been shown to radiate your insides. I use it every day on counters, sinks, stainless steel appliances, and floors. Some people buy multiple gallons of milk. We buy multiple gallons of vinegar.
I’ve been tempted to use it as mouthwash.
Even better than it’s superb cleaning powers, this particular vinegar/essential oil mix makes everything smell awesome.
Fill a generic squirt bottle with half vinegar (I pour it right over the messiest part of my counter and then pretend my spills were intentional cleaning decisions), half water, drops of lemon (or orange), peppermint, and Purify oils… voila. I use doTerra because I have them on hand at this point, though I’m kind of on the fence personally about recommending them over other oils.
