Hey there!! Welcome to Intentional House, where all things family and home design intersect, bound together by the random adventures of every day existence.
I’m Carly—a lucky wife to a dimpled mister and mom to a couple of mini’s who look exactly like their dad. These three are better than chocolate chip ice cream (when you stir in your own big chocolate chips, then eat it with a fork in sheer delight). Chase, my husband, quite literally swept me off my feet in college … he’s an incredible waltzer. Because of his great lead, we both toured the world with ballroom dance. He was for sure the hunkiest latin-pants-wearing dude on campus. Since we’d been friends for years, I attempted to set him up with all of my best girlfriends, but over Christmas break I realized that I needed him for myself. Chase does all the hardest things around our house, from painting to drilling, to providing and protecting, to wrestling and supporting. He is a business genius, runs the back end of this website (to which I sing his praises daily), has the most randomly fabulous memory, can whomp anyone at SuperSmash, and he gives MacGyver a true run for his money. Chase thankfully also reminds me to floss. And he tells good jokes. Aaannnd he has a great design eye. He’s the best ever for a million reasons.
Additionally, I’m a sister to three younger-yet-bigger brothers (I’m still in denial about being the shortest), a long awaited SIL to some excellent women, daughter to a couple of crazies that I hope to grow up to be exactly like, and friend to a handful of the best people that have ever walked the earth. I also consider myself a house-lover, photographer, dancer, writer, and health food enthusiast.
My passion of passion lies in looking at my ruggedly handsome husband. Next to that I love how we use our homes to create memories and relationships, and most importantly, how to use our spaces to strengthen our families. To me, the home is a barracks for a family of warriors in training. It’s a crazy world out there, and the home needs to be somewhere where we can feel peace and love, enabling us to train hard in preparation for our daily battles. Here at Intentional House we battle for goodness, truth, honor, virtue, kindness, love, self-mastery, forgiveness and awesome sofas. I wholeheartedly believe that our houses themselves, and what we put in them, can assist us in taking down insecurity, fear, addiction, idleness, anger, sickness, jealousy, and so on. My goal is to make spaces reflective of who people are and what we want to become.
If you’re my kindred spirit and are desperately in love with lists, here’s a little more about me:
– I graduated in Marriage, Family, and Human Development with my Masters degree. I occasionally insist upon being called Master Carly. Obviously with a British accent. Before that I studied interior design.
– The wonderful husband, Chase, has Crohn’s. We’ve stared death straight in the eyes and thus we are very aware of how great it is to feel good and feel blessed by every new day. This is also the underlying reason we’ve jumped enthusiastically on the whole-food bandwagon. Rah rah. We also still eat chocolate chip ice cream. Actually just my mom and I do that. Chase prefers Swedish Fish.
– We’re Mormon, and have personally found that Jesus Christ and His Atonement can truly heal. Click here to learn more.
Hope you’ll stick around a while– I can’t wait to get to know you!
